About TICO
History
Today’s Terminal Investment Corporation developed from the initiatives of the Booker family over two complete generations and over seven decades—starting in 1946 and evolving from bus transportation and terminal businesses (1950s-60s) to port-related labor transportation (1960s-70s), to TICO’s current port equipment rental pools and terminal tractor manufacturing businesses.
Helping Ports Move Containers—and Contain Costs
In the early 1970s, our CEO Randall S. Booker saw an opportunity to alleviate capital and operating inefficiencies in port operations. He created terminal tractor rental pools that enabled stevedores and port operators to have terminal tractors available on an as-needed basis–as many as needed on the busiest day when all cranes are running–without having to own and maintain any tractors and with absolute cost identification.
This TICO innovation has been a critical part of the success of numerous ports. TICO offers its valued customers maximum uptime at the lowest and most efficient cost.
We Wanted a Great Spotter Truck, So We Built it Ourselves
The TICO fleet needed terminal tractors we could count on, and we couldn’t find one. So, in the 1980s, we began manufacturing our own…creating powerful and reliable spotter trucks that were also comfortable and easy to maintain. We built about 1,200 terminal tractors for the TICO fleet before we decided to sell one.
TICO introduced the Pro-Spotter terminal tractor to the retail market in 2008. Our experience as an operator and maintainer of yard trucks will always set TICO apart.
